Our Theology
While we are a non-credal & spiritually curious community, we understand the importance of clarity and naming some unique characteristics of our theological flavor and tradition.
We believe that Jesus Christ (his title, not last name) was anointed and is the embodiment of Love and Wisdom, expressing oneness with the Father and exemplifying direct experiential union with God available for all. Jesus Christ is not only a historical figure but a living presence that inspires personal spiritual transformation.
We believe the life of Christ as observed in the Red Letters of the Gospels breaks the boundaries of institution and religiosity and offers a path for all to embody a meaningful and fulfilled lifestyle in oneness with God that is available to every person by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit.
We believe all are born in the image and likeness of God, with the spirit of God, and the aim of life is to excavate and express the divine essence that is innate within every person, dissolving the illusion of separation (sin) and awakening wholeness (salvation).
We believe that when we get beneath our societal programming we are able to tap into our true self, Christ in us, which enables alignment with a different reality that Jesus refers to as the Kingdom of God; This other-worldly reality is eternally in our midst, here and now, and always available for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.
We believe when we pattern our life in accordance with God’s Kingdom we transcend the “world” and live in union with the purpose of God, which is seeking to manifest in us, through us, and as us to reconcile all people - to awaken participation in the ongoing healing, wholeness, and transformation of the world.
With this in mind, we ultimately believe that our living and being is far more important than our statements of belief. You will know a tree by its fruit; The fruit of the spirit is our barometer, not dogma.
Therefore, Current Collective finds its native tradition and story in the wisdom of Christ, yet remains open, curious and compassionate, believing there is one God, seeking to express Godself throughout all time, people, culture, and authentic religion. We see bridges instead of barriers and align with the only real evidence of eternal Truth: Love.
Our Values
Our theology takes shape in how we actually try to live. A few postures we hold close:
Silence and Contemplation Practicing meditation and contemplative prayer as a means to encounter the divine. Finding God in the stillness and quietude of the soul, even in the action of everyday life.
Surrender and Discernment Letting go of attachment to identity, material possessions, status, and egoic desires. Surrendering to God's will and trusting in divine guidance.
Humility and Vulnerability Valuing vulnerability as a way to open oneself to the intimacy of divine presence and deepen friendship. Acknowledging one's dependence on God and recognizing the divinity in all of creation (see panentheism).
Forgiveness and Generosity We place emphasis on forgiveness of self and other as a transformative and healing practice leading to abundant life. We believe loosening our fearful grip on life and trusting God's flow is expressed in the generous giving of our time, energy, attention, and money as spiritual practices in their own right.
